teapot 4
There is a lot of chat on the transfer thread about Bamford signing and I wondered what people thought about the possibility of moving to a different formation, and the one I prefer keeps Tomlin where he is, so ignoring the back five. -----Clayton - Leadbitter------ Adomah----Tomlin-------Reach ---------Kike/Bamford Or Clayton - Whitehead - Leadbitter ----------Tomlin -----Kike--------Bamford------- I think depending on personnel both formations work, both depend on the fullbacks getting forward and I generally prefer 4-2-3-1, although I can see the benefit of 2 strikers in some matches
Air Resistance 26
I doubt ak would be for anything other than 4231 or
Adam P 300
-----Clayton - Leadbitter------ Adomah------Tomlin --------------------------Bamford-- ---------Kike------------------ 4-2-3-1 pushing Bamford closer to KIke, using Friend for the majority of the width
Prowler 197
4222 may be an option.
-Tim@london- 17
Dont think we would have sold Butterfield if we were going to play 4-3-2-
Redcar Pebble 10
Personally prefer 4231. ---------Clayton---Leadbitter--------- --Adomah----Tomlin----LW/Reach/Carayol -----------------Kike----------------- We have a lot of strength down the wings, and although playing 2 up front allows George to come into the game more, the combinations work better. LukeR 44
Karanka has also shown he's willing to play 3-5-2 with wingbacks
2plus2 290
4-2-2-2. ----------- Mejias/Dimi ----------- ----- Omeruo - Ayala/Gibson ----- - Damia ------------------- Friend - ------- Leadbitter - Clayton ------- ----- Adomah -------- Tomlin ----- ---------- Kike - Bamford ---------- It's not all that dissimilar to the formation we already play really, in that we have 2 CMs, an attacking quartet and genuine width from the full-backs. Our 4-2-3-1 is interchangeable anyway, and defensively we should easily be able to revert back to something like that when need be from a 4-2-2-2. But it would allow Bamford to be played in a natural position whilst also utilising all our best players and all in familiar positions. Sticking Bamford out on the left-wing or not starting him don't seem viable.
Borodan 16
Personally I wouldn't like to swap Adomah and Reach for Bamford and Whitehead. I like the look of 2plus2's formation. Just depends if the players are intelligent enough to know when to go out wide and when to cut inside. Time will tell .. We might not even get Bamford.
ABH 468
4-4-2 diamond. .........................mejas Damia....omerou....Ayala...friend .................lead/Clayton Adomah............................reach .....................tomlin ................kike.......bamford
Prowler 197
Karanka has also shown he's willing to play 3-5-2 with wingbacks We've played it what? Once from the start against a strong Burnley side when we had a few injuries and changed to it what, once or twice during a match to keep hold of a lead? That's not a willingness, that's desperation. I was thinking of it as a formation we could change to during a game if we are losing/ struggling to break a team down.
ManBearPig 1,833
I can't really see the formation changing from a 4231. As long as the back 4 and 2 cdms are all in position, the 4 up top can all interchange and play anywhere. For example we see Tomlin join Kike up top against Leeds, but I'd imagine it would be Bamford with Kike up top, with Tomlin supplying from behind. With Bamford being wide left, but then sometimes it may be Bamford supplying Kike and Tomlin
