Starting 11

Recommended Posts

So as the dust settles on the close of the transfer window I thought I'd start this thread.

Now we know what our squad will be for the majority of the season (unless we sign players in loan window and January) what would be your preferred starting 11?

My preferred 11.

Dimi

Kalas

Ayala

Gibson

Friend

Forshaw

Clayton

Stuani

Downing

De Pena/ Fabbrini

Nugent

You may ask why I've picked Stuani on the right side and not decided between De Pena and Fab. Stuani has already scored 5 from that position and he's only going to get better as he becomes more familiar with the role. Think Fabbrini will keep his place for the foreseeable future but investing £2.6m in De Pena suggests he will have a significant part to play this season and the club see him as a crucial first team player.

So what are your starting 11's?

I'm in agreement with that, though would certainly go for Stuani-Fabbrini-Downing as the three behind for the next few games. Use De Pena off the bench to get him acclimatised slowly. I'd also give Kike a few starts depending on his/Nugent's form.

Some wonderful selection headaches in those four most advanced positions! :D

Oh... I missed that Leadbitter wasn't there! Yeah... Leadbitter would be in my Starting XI everytime. I'd rotate between Forshaw and Clayton depending on the opposition.

When Nsue has to play RB, you need Clayton-Leadbitter as the partnership to cover him. When we play against teams with a strong midfield, you need those two there to win those battles. Forshaw I'd play more at home and against teams where we should be cheating masses of chances.

My preferred 11 (assuming Adomah remains in a sulk):

--------------------Dimi----------------------

----Kalas---Ayala---Gibson---Friend--

-----------Clayton----Leadbitter---------

-------Stuani--Fabbrini--Downing------

------------------Nugent---------------------

I'm sure Nugent will start hitting the goal trail at some point during September/October, until then it's clear he's just as good as any striker in terms of working the defenders. Feel for Kike leaving him out as I still want to see him play a major role this season but he just has to keep scoring. Both the main strikers are under a lot of pressure now.

If we see Adomah come back, we have a good plan B to whoever clicks onto our narrow 3. Be a good time to bring in Forshaw too:

---------Forshaw---Leadbitter-------

--Adomah---Downing---de Pena--

-----------------Nugent------------------

Its hard as I haven't seen anything of the new keeper or Pena and haven't seen enough of Stuani to have formed a judgement on him. I also think that what I would do and what Karanka would do are very different things.

Currently I think I would go:

Dimi

Friend Gibson Ayala Kalas

Leadbitter Clayton

Adomah Nugent Downing

Kike

I would play:

---------------------------- Agazzi/Dimi-------------------------------

Kalas/Nsue Ayala/Woodgate Gibson/Amorebietta Friend/Husband?

------------Clayton/Stephens - Leadbitter/Forshaw-----------

Stuani/Adomah ---- Downing/Fabbrini ---- De Pena/Reach

----------------------------- Nugent/Kike------------------------------

I reckon you were probably making a statement about the left-back position, but added to show our strength in depth! :D

I just think Friend is good enough to be his own cover!

with reach coming in and downing going right side. our lack of creative players means(imo) we need to get our most effective strikers on. nugent is frequently assisted goals throughout his career so having him behind stuani will be a good call. 3 very different players behind the big man.
