Season Preview - Brentford

After finishing 10th last season, Brentford fans are cautiously optimistic going into the new campaign.

We asked fans on Brentford forum The Griffin Park Grapevine about their chances this season along with the squad they have in place.

Firstly, when asked about their thoughts coming into the new season, one fan stated that "if we hang onto Jota, and our captain Dean signs a new deal, we'll have one of the best squads in the EFL Championship assuming we also don't lose many others during transfer window."

Another added that they were "cautiously optimistic."

"We know that staying up is success when compared to the big boys of the league, however, daring to dream as we have a good squad and stable management.
"

With the feeling that The Bees have a strong squad this season, fans are hoping that a top 6 finish is in reach.

"Anywhere in the top 6 (especially if we keep Jota). It'll be a real dogfight this year with lots of clubs capable of being right up at the top. I think we can be one of them."

"I think we've been growing our team for the past couple of seasons and this will be the point where it comes together, and I think that's been done intentionally."

When asked which players could be key to a successful season, attacking midfielder Jota and defensive midfielder Mokotjo were frequently mentioned.

"Jota if he stays (he probably won't though), Mokotjo has been the DMF piece we've been missing for the last couple of years so will help to make the team more defensive without sacrificing our attacking intent (less you score 2 we score 3). Woods I get the feeling will prime this season."

"Jota, if he stays, but after that could be anyone really. New signing Kamo Mokotjo is the defensive midfielder we've been needing for a long time and could also be key in an unglamorous position.

Finally, the fixtures which Brentford fans most looking forward to are the "local derbies - Fulham, QPR and Millwall."

"Apart from that, a very northern league this year."
