Season Preview - Leeds United

With Garry Monk departing for Boro, Thomas Christiansen will be looking to guide Leeds to the Premier League this season.

We spoke to Adam from Marching On Together and Rob from Life, Leeds United, the Universe & Everything about their hopes for the season.

"Last season was a ray of hope after a decade of dross" said Adam. "Monk got us organised, and although it wasn't always pretty, it was effective for most of the season. We ran out of steam at the finish due to a lack of support in the January transfer window."

"This season we have a new owner, a new manager, a new management structure, and some new players. On the plus side we now own Elland Road after 13 years."

"Time will tell whether Christiansen will have the right stuff to manage in a tough league, and whether the European Director of Football model will work. Buying back the stadium has got the whole fanbase buzzing, and we are starting to act like a proper football club again."

Rob added "it's actually looking reasonably optimistic with Cellino, just a bad memory, and new owner Andrea Radrizzani looking to invest in all areas of club and team. Cautiously anticipatory sums it up."

When asked which position they think Leeds will finish, Adam said "I’d hope we could push on from last season and secure a top six finish."

Rob also agreed, saying "top six, says heart. Top half, cautions head."

Speaking about which players will be key for Leeds United, Rob said "Chris Wood, if we keep him and he can repeat last season's heroics."

"Luke Ayling can build on a promising first campaign as a rampaging right back. Pontus Jansson to remain a tower of strength at centre back. And possibly two or three yet to sign."

Adam added, "Chris Wood and Pontus Jansson were key for us last season. Wood with his goals and Jansson with his no nonsense defending. Both will be key again next season."

"Ronaldo Vieira is a promising youngster and could be the heart of the midfield next year. Big name to live up to but he impressed last year with his incredible tackling ability and engine, crucial at times for us last season. He also bagged the winning penalty for England U20s against Ivory Coast in the final of the Toulon Tournament this summer."

Finally, when asked which fixtures the fans are looking forward to Adam said "Boro...but only if we win" whilst Rob said "has to be the Sheffield clubs for me, tasty home and away."
