Boro far from out of the play-off race

It is safe to say that 2013 has been a miserable year for Middlesbrough so far as the side have only managed to claim seven Championship points from a possible 39 and have slipped out of play-off places.

It just shows you how much this tight league is all about confidence and momentum – when spirits are high you feel as though you can beat anyone, but when they are low, you can’t see where the next point is coming from.

However, despite such a poor run of form, Boro are by no means out of the running for a top six finish as they are just five points adrift of the play-offs right now.

Things have to turn around quickly, yes, but the international break might end up doing the squad some good as it is a chance for players to rest and return to full fitness, while the management team get to grips with what exactly has been going wrong.

Things just haven’t gone well since the turn of the year though and on current form, you would say that the north-east side are likely to finish around mid-table.

But this is the Championship, which is one of the most unpredictable leagues in the world and just when you think a team might be out of the running for their aim for the season, they string a few results together.

All it is going to take is back-to-back wins for Middlesbrough to start believing again. If they can get something at Wolves next week and then at Peterborough on the following Tuesday, Boro can move right back into contention.

It is going to be tough, but don’t write off the club when it comes to online betting.
