Reports suggest that Hull City are close to finalising a move for 23-year-old Boro striker Ashley Fletcher.

Ipswich Town are looking to sign Hull City forward Will Keane, and once that deal is completed, the Tigers will pursue the signing of Fletcher from Boro.

Hull City manager Nigel Adkins has confirmed he spoken to Boro about the availability of the striker, having tried to sign the player in the final hours of the summer transfer window with talks falling through at the last minute due to Boro incomings falling through.

Hull have retained their interest in Fletcher, who has featured 11 times for Boro this season, scoring 3 times.

Last season, Fletcher had a loan spell with Sunderland, who were relegated from the Championship, making 16 appearances and scoring twice. When asked about Fletcher’s time at Sunderland, Tony Pulis said “he had a bad start there and the crowd gave him some stick so to get over that was a bit of character for him. You’d think that would give him that bit of edge. But there is a player in there.”

When asked about Fletcher transfer, Nigel Adkins said "Ashley is a player who we actually had down at Cottingham in the summer. It didn’t happen, Middlesbrough pulled the deal at the very last second, which was a shame."

“He’s one of many talented footballers that we’ve tracked. We have spoken with Middlesbrough about Ashley and you never know.”

“We’re looking to bring a couple of players in, a couple or three just to add to the squad we’ve got,” said Adkins.

Tony Pulis stated in December that Fletcher’s days at Boro may be numbered. “I think that will be determined by who we bring in and what we do” he said.

“I think the big thing with Fletch is his personality. He’s got to come out of himself. Technically, he’s a very, very gifted player, but it’s not technique alone that gets you there.”

“His personality; you can go through a training session and not notice Fletch being there and he’s got to grow.”

“He’s been at Man United, he’s left, he’s gone to West Ham, and he’s left and he’s come to us and he’s got to start grasping it.”
