Boro linked with a move for Brentford's captain

According to rumours, Boro are interested in signing Brentford captain Romaine Sawyers.

The attacking midfielder has 18 months remaining on his current contract, with Boro and Aston Villa reportedly showing an interest in securing the signature of the Saint Kitts and Nevis international.

Aston Villa are reportedly in pole position to complete the signing of the midfielder in the January transfer window, with Villa manager Dean Smith having managed Sawyers at both Brentford and Walsall.

With 18 months left on his Brentford contract, The Bees will be looking to cash in on the player, rather than letting him leave for free in the 2020 summer transfer window.

Sawyers has racked up 115 appearances for Brentford since joining in 2016, scoring 8 times and assisting in 16 goals.

In the 2015/2016 season, Sawyers was named in the PFA Team of the Year for League One, and finished second in the PFA League One Player of the Year.
