Championship rivals eye up Boro midfielder

Reports suggest three clubs are chasing the signing of the 34-year-old midfielder.

Blackburn Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday and Rangers are all keen to sign Boro midfielder Stewart Downing.

The 34-year-old midfielder is out of contract this summer and is currently reviewing his options ahead of a move.

The former England international is expected to hold talks with Blackburn Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday and Rangers, where former team-mate Steven Gerrard is the manager.

Boro are also keen to open talks with Downing, however until a new manager (or reported Director of Football) are announced, talks are on hold.

It has also been reported that Downing could be lured abroad, with interest from Major League Soccer teams.

Having risen through Boro's youth academy, Downing has had two spells at the club, making 399 appearances.
