'Former Chelsea midfielder closes in on Boro move after 2nd visit to Rockliffe Park'
The two-time Premier League winning midfielder was rumoured to have been at Rockliffe Park today.
According to reports, former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has held talks at Rockliffe Park today ahead of a move to the North East.
The Nigerian international held initial talks with the Boro board last week, however it seemed the move was off after Crystal Palace pursued their interest in the player.
Mikel, who turns 32 in April, made his name at Chelsea where he won 10 major trophies, including two Premier League titles, the Europa League and the Champions League in 2012.
He opted to join Chinese Super League side Tianjin Teda on a free transfer after Chelsea announced they would not offer the player a new deal at Stamford Bridge. Having spent two years in China, making 31 appearances, he is once again a free agent and looking for a move back to England.
