John Obi Mikel explains reason behind Boro’s poor run of form

Middlesbrough midfielder John Obi Mikel has expressed his surprise at his team’s inability to score goals in the last few weeks.

Boro were unable to move back into the Championship play-off places on Tuesday night as they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Bristol City on home turf.

Understandably, given the recent form of their team, a large section of fans booed the team off the pitch after the final whistle, with some also calling for manager Tony Pulis to be shown the door.

Defeat on Tuesday means that Boro have now managed to score only 2 goals in the last 5 games, a form which has seen them slip to eighth place in the Championship.

Speaking after the game to Boro’s official website, Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel said “I have never known anything like it. I have played all over the world in many teams and I have never known this situation.”

“If you watch the game we have created so many, many chances.”

“We are sat there scratching our heads and wondering how on Earth we did not get a goal. How did we not come away with something?”

“We are playing well, we are doing things right, it is just not going in.”

While their recent form leaves no reason for optimism, Boro’s next four games are against sides ranked in the bottom half of the Championship.
