McDonald confident of revival

Middlesbrough striker Scott McDonald is choosing to remain positive about the plight he and his team find themselves in.

Tony Mowbray’s men sit second from bottom of the Championship with 18 points after the 2-2 draw at home to Hull City at the weekend.

It is fair to say the mood amongst the fans isn’t great, but McDonald has moved to reassured fans that the spirit amongst the playing squad is good and they have the belief that they can move away from the relegation zone in the coming weeks.

The former Celtic man told the fans: “Just keep believing, because we are. If you don't put in the work you don't get the rewards, so we've got to keep working hard and hopefully it'll turn."

“We all have to man up and take that responsibility and keep fighting on, there's plenty of points to play for, we'll look to the next game now.”

These comments don’t move away from the fact that it might be a long, hard struggle for the club this season, but McDonald is clearly focused on the job in hand and knows what to be done.

Like many, he will be aware that a couple of wins back to back will make the situation much healthier. That is the beauty of the Championship. You are only two wins away from being in decent form.

Normally, you will get reward for a good mini run too as your team surges up the table. This is what Middlesbrough must focus on. Two wins can change everything. It lifts confidence, restores a bit of fan belief and most importantly, provides some much needed points.

This won’t be easy in the next two games though. A trip to play-off chasing Coventry is followed by a home game with 2nd placed Cardiff City.

Middlesbrough showed good fighting spirit on Saturday, twice coming from behind to secure a point and even though it was far from the ideal result, it did show a fighting spirit that will be much needed in the remainder of the season.

The players are not going to crumble just yet and they need to keep wearing their Middlesbrough Football Kits with pride.

The sooner the team hits a purple patch (because it WILL happen), the better chance McDonald and Middlesbrough have of achieving a respectable position in the Championship this season.
