Middlesbrough, Derby and Reading in race to sign Norwich City outcast

Reports coming from various media outlets have claimed that Middlesbrough FC look set to bolster their attacking options by going for the Portuguese international.

Middlesbrough, Derby and Reading in race to sign Norwich City outcast

According to a report from TeamTalk, Middlesbrough, Derby and Reading are competing to secure the services of Norwich City striker Nelson Oliveira in the remaining days of the January transfer window.

However, the Championship sides aren’t the only clubs actively pursuing the 27-year-old, with Premier League clubs Huddersfield Town and Burnley also scouting the striker.

Since signing for Norwich City in the summer of 2016 from Portuguese club Benfica, Oliveira has made 65 appearances for the club, scoring 19 goals in the process. He has also made 17 appearances for the International team.

However, while he started his career brightly for the Canaries, Oliveira has fallen out of favour this term, hence the reason why, despite being one of the highest earners at the Norfolk club, Oliveira hasn’t made a single appearance for them this season.

Consequently, with manager Daniel Farke showing no confidence in the player, the Portuguese International has been forced to play with the U21s this season.

Before setting his sights on the Portuguese international, Boro manager Tony Pulis has been busy offloading the likes of Martin Braithwaite from his squad, in addition to awaiting offers for Ashley Fletcher and Rudy Gestede.

Provided both these players leave in the remaining days of this transfer window, Boro would only have Jordan Hugill and Britt Assombalonga in their striking department.

With neither of them having goals in double figures for the season, as Hugill has scored 6 goals to Assombalonga’s 7 in the Championship, Boro would need to inject more firepower to bridge the six points’ gap they currently have between themselves and Norwich City who sit in the automatic promotion places.
