'Middlesbrough move for Fulham outcast'

Middlesbrough hope that the lack of playing time under Claudio Ranieri could force the midfielder to move.

According to Sky Sports News, Fulham have agreed to let midfielder Kevin McDonald leave the club on loan this month, with Middlesbrough being one of the clubs hoping to secure his signature in the January transfer window.

McDonald, who signed a new 2-year deal with Fulham only last summer, signed for Fulham from Wolves in the summer of 2016. He was an integral part of the Fulham side which sealed promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs last season.

While he started this season brightly, featuring 10 times in the opening half of the season, McDonald’s fortunes have gone downhill since the sacking of Slavisa Jokanovic.

Of the 11 appearances that he has made for the club so far this season, 10 of them came under former manager Slavisa Jokanovic.

Ever since the arrival of Claudio Ranieri at the club, the 30-year old has been able to manage only eight minutes of playing time, with his last appearance for the club in the Premier League coming on Boxing day in a 1-1 draw with Wolves.

In addition to Middlesbrough, a number of Championship clubs are also interested in signing the player.

As part of the League One Wolves team, McDonald won both the Player’s and Fans’ Player of the Season Award, in addition to being named in the PFA League One Team of the Year.
