Middlesbrough reportedly planning to raid Birmingham City for striker

In a bid to bolster their attacking department, Boro are ready to splash the cash in the summer transfer window for the Birmingham City striker.

Middlesbrough reportedly planning to raid Birmingham City for striker

Having failed in their bid to sign Birmingham City striker Issac Vassell in the last few days of January transfer window, Middlesbrough are ready to revive their interest in the 25-year-old once the transfer window opens again in the summer.

As reported by The Sun, Boro are ready to pay up to £2 million to tempt Birmingham City to part their services with their forward.

Birmingham City, meanwhile, are aware of the interest multiple clubs are showing in Vassell, hence the reason why they are ready to offer him a new deal at the club.

However, while Vassell’s current contract with the club extends through to 2021, it is unclear whether or not the player himself would want to extend his stay at St. Andrew’s Stadium.

Vassell, who joined Birmingham City from Luton Town in 2017, has found goals hard to come by and has managed only one goal in 17 Championship appearances for The Blues.

Repeated injuries have also taken their toll on the striker who hasn’t scored a goal in the 8 Championship appearances he has managed this season.

Nevertheless, as suggested by Boro’s attempt to sign the player in January, Tony Pulis isn’t too concerned with the player’s lack of form.

Also, while Birmingham are in no mood to let the player leave, their well-documented troubles with the FFP might force Gary Monk to sanction the move for the in-demand striker.

The club, after being found to have breached Championship’s rules on spending, were hit with a transfer ban and are currently facing the threat of a possible 12-point deduction which would apply from next season.

Therefore, if such a situation arises in the near-future which calls for Birmingham to balance their books to meet FFP obligations, the Midlands club might be forced to cash-in on Issac Vassell, with Boro the clear beneficiaries should such a scenario happen.
