Boost for Boro as long-term transfer target becomes available

Boost for Boro as long-term transfer target becomes available

The Danish international, who confirmed that Boro tried signing him in the summer, is out of contract in July.

Ipswich Town manager Paul Lambert has revealed that Boro transfer target Jonas Knudsen might leave the Blues in the upcoming January transfer window.

When quizzed by journalists regarding the future of the fullback, who started on the bench against Boro, Lambert admitted that the matter is now out of his hands.

"He might move," Lambert told the press at the Riverside Stadium. "Nobody knows whether he moves."

Explaining why he didn’t select Knudsen in his starting XI, he added that "he’s played a lot of games and I had to have a look at Myles (Kenlock), who I thought was excellent for his first game."

"If Jonas goes because of his contract situation then there is nothing we can do. That’s the way it is. It’s his last year contract wise."

"There is no pressure to let Jonas go. I just thought he’d played a lot of games. I thought Myles was excellent. His delivery was excellent and his defending was very, very good."

"As I said before, I’ll try and be fair with everybody and give them a chance."

Knudsen revealed Boro’s interest was genuine

In a summer where Boro pursued multiple targets, Knudsen revealed earlier this season that he too was one that got away.

When asked about Boro's interest, he said "there was something concrete in it. But sometimes things do not come into place as you please."

"That’s the way it is. This summer, I had a year left. Now, I have half a year left. It’s a new situation in January, so we will see."

On whether he sees his contract situation getting resolved in the near future, Knudsen admitted that he had heard nothing from Ipswich Town owner.

"Sometimes, you want to try something new and you will be disappointed, but you cannot resist it. I’m out of contract, and I have not heard anything from the club or the owner."
