When the Cheering Stops

When the Cheering Stops

James Corbett, a sportswriter for, amongst others, the Observer Sport Monthly and FourFourTwo, and author of two books – England Expects and Everton: The School of Science needs your help!

‘When the Cheering Stops’ is about past footballing heroes and how they were forgotten or shunned by the game they had given so much to. As well as chapters on Dixie Dean, Tommy Lawton, Bill Shankly, Hughie Gallagher, Don Revie and Bobby Moore (Amongst others…), I am writing about a former Boro’ star – perhaps the greatest of them all – Wilf Mannion.

We need you to help out!

James is currently looking for Boro fans (or even club staff or players) who met Wilf, maybe knew him, maybe saw him play or even worked with him at ICI to interview. Indeed I’m particularly keen to hear from people who encountered him in retirement (bear in mind sometimes the most chance or obscure meetings can be the most interesting or revelatory).

Everyone interviewed will be acknowledged in the book and I’ll make sure they receive a copy too (publication is likely to be late –2009).

If you could email james [at ] whenthecheeringstops [dot] co [dot] uk – that would be very helpful.

Thanks for your help
